Why we started Diabetes Meals Online/The Diabetes Kitchen
In June 2013 my daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. She was just 19. There was no diabetes in our family and with no idea what diabetes really was so the diagnosis was frightening and left us confused and feeling a bit helpless.
One of the things we found really annoying was having to work out how to change her diet for her long term health. Supermarket shopping became a nightmare - reading every food product label, working out carbs and salts and percentages, and looking for hidden sugars.
During this time we searched high and low for suitable recipes and meals that would help take the stress out of mealtime. There was nothing available. We talked about why this was so difficult and what we could do to help ourselves and others who must be going through the same thing and that's how Diabetes Meals Online began.
We have a fantastic team of Dietitians, Diabetes Educators and Food Technologists who help us ensure we bring you the best meals and snacks possible. Our mission is to make meal time easier for people who are managing all types of diabetes. Enjoy!
Leonie and Elly.
