Coeliac disease is an immune disease caused by gluten (found in wheat, rye, barley and oats). For people with this disease, the consumption of gluten causes inflammation and damage to the small bowel intestine. This can cause problems like pain, gastro, bloating, flatulence, vomiting and diarrhoea or constipation.
It can develop at any age and affects approx 1 in 70 Australians but around 80% aren't diagnosed.
